OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- A car slammed into an Oceanside home Sunday night, but neither the driver nor the residents appeared to be injured, authorities said.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. in the 3600 block of Vista Campana, according to Ryan Keim of the Oceanside Police Department.
The driver was an 85-year-old man in a Toyota sedan, Keim said. "The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the exterior wall of a residence."
The driver -- whose identity was being withheld -- was the only occupant of the sedan and did not appear injured, but he was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Keim said.
The residents were inside the house but were not injured, he said.
"The structure sustained major damage which included a ruptured gas line," Keim said.
The rupture forced the evacuation of several nearby residences. Repairs were expected to take several hours and building inspectors went to the scene to assess the severity of the damage to the house.
The police investigation revealed alcohol was a factor in the crash and the driver was issued a DUI citation.
