A 70-year-old man struck by a car while attempting to cross a busy street in La Mesa has died, police said Wednesday.
The victim was taken to a hospital after he was hit by an eastbound Toyota Prius on El Cajon Boulevard near Williams Avenue around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday but died while undergoing surgery, La Mesa police Lt. Greg Runge said. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Prius remained at the scene and was not suspected of drunken driving. Runge said the crash was "not being treated as a criminal investigation at this time."
