Firefighters needed about 10 minutes Sunday afternoon to knock down a house fire in El Cajon that caused an estimated $75,000 in damage, authorities said.

A resident in the single-story house in the 1000 block of Leslie Road smelled smoke and called 911 shortly after noon, then made it out safely, according to Heartland Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Sonny Saghera.

Damage from the fire was limited to a room addition and the attic, Saghera said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, but Saghera said it was not suspicious. The four displaced family members declined help from the American Red Cross for temporary relocation, he said.

No injuries were reported.
