SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--Arrests for driving under the influence during the Memorial Day weekend increased slightly in San Diego County bucking a downward trend statewide, according to statistics provided by the California Highway Patrol.
From Friday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. to Monday, May 29 at 6:00 a.m., there were 53 DUI arrests in the county, up from 51 last year.
In California as a whole, DUI arrests decreased from 942 last year to 818 in 2017. Fatalities were down statewide as well (23 in 2017 compared to 27 in 2016).
Orange County had less total DUI arrests (48) than San Diego County but also saw an increase in arrests over last year (44 in 2016).
