SAN DIEGO – A drowning man who was pulled from the water off Ocean Beach early Wednesday morning has died.
According to San Diego lifeguards at the scene, sometime before 3:15 a.m. a 27-year-old man was swimming with friends off Ocean Beach’s Dog Beach off Brighton Avenue when he began drowning.

A friend called 911 and lifeguards, firefighters and paramedics responded to find the man face down about 50 to 75 feet from shore.
He was pulled out of the water and paramedics did CPR on him for approximately 30 minutes. He had no heart activity when he was rushed by UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest.
Just before 7 a.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson confirmed the man died at the hospital.
The exact circumstances surrounding how the man drowned were not immediately known.
