LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver who said he fell asleep at the wheel woke up after crashing his car over off Interstate 8 near Lake Murray Boulevard in La Mesa.
The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. when witnesses said a car veered across all eastbound I-8 lanes, crashed into several water-filled barrels and through rails before landing on its roof.
Witnesses told 10News the driver got out of the overturned car and did not appear injured.
Emergency crews took the man to the hospital to be evaluated.
California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the crash.
