SAN MARCOS, Calif. — A 19-year-old passenger is dead after a solo vehicle rollover crash Saturday night when the driver admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana beforehand, San Diego Sheriff's Department said.

The 20-year-old driver made an unsafe turning movement that caused his Nissan Xterra to lose control and roll around 7:45 p.m. on Los Vallecitos Drive near Vallecitos de Oro.

The victim was partially ejected during the rollover leading to his fatal injuries, Deputy Michael Guerrero said in a statement.

An evaluation of the driver determined he was under the influence of a combination of alcohol and marijuana. He has been booked into Vista Detention Facility on gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI charges.

Guerrero urged anyone who witnessed the collision to provide a statement at 760-510-5048.
