A man was taken to the hospital after police said he was run over by a car in the Oak Park area.

San Diego police said the incident happened at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday on Redwood Street near Chollas Station Road.

A witness told 10News he saw a female driver backing her car away from what he thought was a dog's body, but it turned out to be a man.

The witness claims the woman told him not to call police and identified herself as the victim's boyfriend, and then said he was her husband.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the man suffered serious leg injuries.

Police are questioning the woman, 10News learned.
