SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have arrested a man on suspicion of DUI after he launched his car several feet through the air and crashed into a ravine in Mount Hope early Thursday morning.

The crashed happened at around 3 a.m. at the Home Avenue off-ramp on eastbound State Route 94.

According to police, the driver never stopped at the top of the off-ramp and drove through the intersection sending the car flying 50 feet over the edge of the street down into a ravine.

Heidi Bratton is an Uber driver, she was parked nearby waiting for a fare when she saw the crash.

“It looked like a movie set. I mean he flew over and took a nose dive. It was like a stunt man,” she said.

By the time she ran over to the top of the hill, the driver was out of his car.

“I yelled to him, ‘Are you okay?’ And he told me he was checking everything out,” she told 10News.

“Obviously he was pretty impaired and didn’t realize his whole car was scattered down a hill,” she added.

The car landed next to a house, but didn’t do any damage to the home, or the fence.

Police have not released the driver’s name, but they told 10News he was “very” drunk when they arrived.

Officers found a half-empty bottle of Hennessey near the wreck, and a small bottle of medical marijuana inside the car.

The driver was injured in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital.  His condition is unknown at this time.

It took crews a few hours to recover the vehicle out of the steep ravine.  The car narrowly missed landing in the backyard of a home beside the ravine.
