DEL MAR - A beachgoer taking a morning walk near Seagrove Park Friday came across several large wrapped bundles of marijuana apparently abandoned by smugglers, authorities reported.
Carla Hayes shot the cell phone video of the marijuana bales.
"It's not every day you walk down the beach and see $600,000 worth of marijuana," she said. "Doesn't happen every day."
Hayes reported the discovery at the foot of an oceanfront bluff off the terminus of 11th Street in Del Mar about 7:30 a.m.
Personnel with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department were called in to custody of the cannabis, city lifeguard Lt. Jon Edelbrock said.
