SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Many San Diego businesses have been forced to close their doors, leaving thousands of employees without jobs, but one local restaurant group is making things a little easier for its workers during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Volunteers with the Cohn Restaurant Group handed out items to employees outside of the Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park on Monday. Inside the packages was enough food to feed a family of four. The items included roasted chicken, roasted red potatoes, vegetables, produce, cereal, and milk.
The 500 meals were prepared by nearly a dozen chefs inside the restaurant. The Cohn Restaurant Group has a total of 30 businesses in San Diego County, but many of the shops are now closed due to the outbreak.
“It kind of eliminates the fear of what's been going on and knowing that we’re still here for them,” said Sofia Picazo, Operations Manager with Cohn Restaurant Group. “We support them. Our goal is to get back and get through this. Everybody stay home, please, so we can get back to what we do best.”
The organization is pledging $250,000 to provide relief to its team members.
Cohn Restaurant Group says it will be handing out care packages to its employees at least three times a week.
