SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- A local Emergency Room doctor got a special delivery right to her driveway Saturday morning. The renovated RV is a much needed and safe place for her to stay after seeing patients with coronavirus symptoms.

This is a story about how two strangers that became each other's heroes. What brought them together? A dire need stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

"Connie and I made an instant connection," La Mesa event planner, Jamie Renfro said. She said she and her family are big adventurers.

"We love camping," Renfro said. "We go to Borrego, and we just like to be outdoors."

Connie Miller, MD., is an ER doctor at Kaiser Permanente San Diego, who sees many patients with coronavirus symptoms. Like all of us, she tries not to take work home. But it's not so easy when you are on the front lines.

"We all have a deep contamination procedure," Dr. Miller said. "Nothing I wear at work comes home with me, or it stays in the trunk of my car. I try not to interact with the kids when I get home."

It's a big sacrifice and a sad reality for many healthcare workers around the world.

Enter into the equation "RV's for MD's." The nation-wide Facebook group connects RV owners in quarantine with healthcare workers who need a separate place to stay to keep their families safe.

When Renfro discovered it, she jumped at the opportunity to help. The next day, she matched with Dr. Miller.

"It's not a huge sacrifice," Renfro said. "It's something I can easily do, and it's a way for me to thank them for what they're doing. Just giving them a sense of peace of mind is just really what makes me happy."

Saturday morning, Renfro delivered her beautifully renovated RV with all the hook-ups straight to Miller's driveway. She's letting her borrow it free of charge, for however long she needs.

"They are offering such a wonderful gift that allows us not to worry so much," Dr. Miller said. "Even though everyone thinks we are all the heroes and we are working in the front lines. Truly Jamie Renfo and her family, they're my hero right now."

San Marcos company, Diamond Environmental, is offering discounts for RV sewage services for any local "RV's for MD's" participants.
