The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 24-year-old woman from a cruise ship after she experienced signs of acute appendicitis around 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Carnival Imagination cruise ship was approximately 50 miles southwest of Point Loma, when the Coast Guard received a call from the crew regarding the woman.
Sector San Diego's flight surgeon recommended that she be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched, arrived on scene and safely hoisted the woman.
The woman was transferred to awaiting EMS and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
