A Jordanian fighter pilot has been captured by the Islamic State after his F-16 fighter jet was shot down Wednesday.

CNN reports it's the first plane to be shot down since the United States led coalition airstrikes against the terrorist group, ISIS.

The jet was downed in Syria, near the Islamic State's unofficial capital in Raqqa. ISIS posted on Twitter what it claims are photos of the pilot, surrounded by masked men.

While several reports say the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile, Jordan’s official news agency said the plane crashed, The Washington Post reports.
