SAN DIEGO - An unusual theft in Clairemont involving a mystery woman and a mailbox was captured on surveillance video.

Last Friday, a holiday Grinch was on the prowl in a Jaguar in Mark's neighborhood near Olive Grove Park.

"She was in front of our house, sleeping in her car for several days," Mark told 10News.

He said a woman walked up to his house around 9:30 a.m., and, "she started knocking on the door, ringing the bell, and then she went around the side gate."

For several minutes, Mark's wife stood inside, watching.

"She didn't know what to do. She was afraid," said Mark.

The woman left, and when Mark got home hours later, he found his metal mailbox missing.

"I call it pretty bizarre," said Mark.

He checked his surveillance video and saw her.

At 11 a.m. that same day, the mystery woman returned and again walked up to the front door.

About two minutes later, she is seen leaving with a mailbox -- valued at about $30 -- before getting in her Jaguar and driving off.

Mark believes the mailbox was empty.

The woman did leave a calling card. In the video, something is seen in her hand while she's walking up -- a letter posted near the front door.

"It doesn't make sense. It reads, 'Thanks for the tender, appreciate the tender,' something like that," said Mark.

A day later, a woman was arrested for vandalism and squatting in a vacant home on the same street.

Police have not confirmed if the woman arrested was the one captured on Mark's surveillance camera.
