CARLSBAD, Calif. – A detached garage that caught fire in Carlsbad early Thursday morning forced nearby residents to evacuate their homes.
Just after 1:20 a.m., Carlsbad Fire Department crews were called to an abandoned home in the 600 block of Chinquapin Avenue to find the detached garage on the same property fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to the main house or any nearby homes. Residents in the adjacent homes were forced to temporarily evacuate, but were later allowed to return.
There were no reported injuries.
Fire Department investigators are on scene trying to determine a cause. Neighbors told 10News that the home and garage is slated for demolition and is often frequented by transients.
A financial estimate of the damage was not confirmed.
