A driver was taken to the hospital after veering off northbound Interstate 5 in the Del Mar area and being thrown from her car.
The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told authorities that the car suddenly veered off the freeway near Via de la Valle, plunging nearly 150 feet down an embankment. The witness said the driver was ejected from her car's back window.
10News learned the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was conscious and breathing when she was examined by emergency crews.
The crash is under investigation.
