CHULA VISTA - A vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant in Chula Vista on Friday, sending water shooting into the air and concrete chunks smashing down on to two passing motorists.
The crash happened on Olympic Parkway, near where it intersects with Hunte Parkway and it took crews an hour to get the water shut off.
The driver of the vehicle - a young man in his 20s - was unhurt and walked home, where he called 911. He and his mother then returned to the crash scene.
The driver reported that he was having trouble with his vehicle pulling to the right and despite efforts to correct, was unable to avoid colliding into the fire hydrant. Police discovered after the crash that a tire on the right-hand side of the vehicle was shredded.
As previously mentioned, two other vehicles were hit by concrete that the water forced up into the air.
