Car crashes into power pole in Point Loma knocking out power to hundreds of homes

POINT LOMA, Calif. (KGTV) - A car crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Venice St and Newport St in Point Loma Sunday evening.

 

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said a 40-year-old woman crashed her Rav-4 into the pole around 4:50 p.m.

 

She was transported to UCSD Medical Center with minor injuries.

 

Witnesses said the driver stopped abruptly at a stop sign on Venice St. before accelerating into the oncoming lane and crashing into the pole.

 

SDG&E was on site repairing the downed lines. At 7 p.m. their website listed 864 customers without power. Crews on site estimated the repairs would be completed by Monday morning.
