EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was taken to the hospital after the car he was driving swerved off Interstate 8 in the El Cajon area, crashed near a propane tank and burst into flames.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m. Wednesday in the 9600 block of Chocolat Summit Drive, according to authorities.
Authorities said the man somehow lost control of his car on westbound I-8 near Dunbar Lane and plummeted off the freeway. The car plowed through two fences before coming to rest just inches from a large propane tank.
The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames, and responding firefighters quickly put out the fire and kept the propane tank cool to keep it from exploding.
The driver, who was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with injuries of unknown severity, is suspected of driving under the influence.
No other injuries were immediately reported.
