CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Firefighters quickly knocked down a small fire which broke out in some brush in the Sweetwater River area Friday morning.
The approximately 75-foot- by 75-foot blaze broke out before 2:45 a.m. near the KOA Campground, off the 100 block of North 2nd Avenue, just north of State Route 54 and west of Interstate 805. It came within about 100 feet of the campground.
National City Fire Department crews responded and knocked it down within minutes. There were no reports of damage and traffic on the freeways was unaffected.
The area is known to be frequented by homeless campers. The cause is under investigation.
