Brush fire breaks out near SDSU

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents of 80 homes that were evacuated after a brush fire was sparked near San Diego State University can return home.

The fire broke out just after 4 p.m. Sunday near Adobe Falls Road and Del Cerro Boulevard.

Thirty-eight acres were scorched. The fire is now 85 percent contained.

Several structures and homes were threatened. San Diego Police said the evacuations were mandatory for 60 homes, and others voluntarily evacuated. 

Traffic along the I-8 is still affected. The College Avenue and Waring Road exits are closed, according to California Highway Patrol. The number three and four lanes of I-8 westbound are also closed.
