SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Victims of the Lilac Fire who lost important documents may be able to have them replaced free of charge by San Diego County.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the measure Tuesday to help provide replacement marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates, deeds, and other property-related documents free of charge to fire victims.

The replacement program is available to property owners within an approved geographic area by the county's assessor, recorder, county clerk offices.

The impact to the county is expected to be minimal. Costs associated with birth or death certificates cost $28. Marriage certificates cost $15.

The Lilac Fire burned 4,100 acres across the North County area earlier this month. The fire destroyed 157 structures and damaged 64 others.

The fire was fully contained on Saturday. Its cause is still under investigation.
