Board of Supervisors: Gaspar increases lead against incumbent Roberts again

Posted

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Encinitas Mayor Kristin Gaspar today sat another 81 votes further ahead of incumbent Dave Roberts in the race for a seat on the Board of Supervisors, according to a new count released by the Registrar of Voters.

Gaspar has a 1,247-vote lead in the latest tally, released at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday

She had trailed by around 2,200 votes after election night counting, but has been gaining ground as absentee and provisional votes were tallied.

The latest count shows 113,594 for Gaspar -- 50.28 percent -- to 112,347 for Roberts, or 49.72 percent.

About 60,000 absentee and provisional ballots still need to be tallied countywide, according to the registrar's office. It was unclear how many of those were cast in the supervisor's race.

Another vote tally by the Registrar of Voters Office was expected to be released after 5 p.m. Monday. State law mandates that the election must be certified by the Registrar of Voters by Dec. 8.
