SAN DIEGO – A man who claimed he had been attacked climbed a pole and prompted a standoff with deputies that temporarily shut down trolley service in the Lemon Grove area overnight Monday.
San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Lemon Grove Way and North Avenue just before 1 a.m. to find a bloody, shirtless man clinging to an MTS trolley pole along the Orange Line. The man was claiming that he had been beaten up.
A deputy climbed up to the man, and eventually convinced him to climb down. He was handcuffed for his own safety and taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.
During the incident, Orange Line trolley service was halted. It has since resumed.
The sheriff’s department is investigating.
