DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV)--Hundreds of bike riders cruised through Del Mar for the fifth annual "Bike 4 Mike" ride.
It's a charity ride to raise money and find a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease - or ALS.
Bike for Mike is in honor of Mike Ramirez. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2009 - started this event in 2012 - but died just months before seeing it come to life.
On Sunday, organizers celebrated hitting the million dollar goal Ramirez set before he died.
"He would be thrilled. He would be absolutely thrilled," Greg Sacks said. "It was a goal that he set. He would probably set a bigger one now. That was just the way he was."
In the U.S. alone, there are 5,600 new cases of ALS each year.
