IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. -- A 21-year-old bicyclist was injured in a collision with an SUV Friday in Imperial Beach, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The collision happened at 6:10 p.m. on South Imperial Beach Boulevard near Georgia Street.

A 2012 Cadillac SUV driven by a 25-year-old was traveling westbound on South Imperial Beach Boulevard, approaching Georgia Street, when the bicyclist was attempting to cross South Imperial Beach Boulevard and collided with the SUV, deputies said.

The bicyclist suffered serious injuries to her face and the back of her head, and was taken to UCSD Medical Center, according to Sgt. Leonel Gurrola of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, Gurrola said.
