Beach forecast: Big waves, strong rip currents

Posted

Big waves will continue to wash ashore in San Diego County an extra day, into Sunday evening, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

Surf was expected to reach up to 6 feet, with higher sets in some areas Saturday, then gradually backing down to 2 to 4 feet on Sunday with sets up to 5 feet, according to the NWS.

"Conditions are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents," the NWS statement said. "Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the vicinity of jetties, inlets and piers."

Swimmers were cautioned by the NWS to always swim near a lifeguard.
