SAN DIEGO -- Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 32-year-old man found dead after the tugboat on which he had been staying caught fire while docked in Barrio Logan Sunday.
Firefighters discovered the body of Henry Wimbley on the top deck of the "Chief" after the blaze was extinguished early Sunday, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the county Medical Examiner's Office. Wimbley died at the scene from smoke inhalation and burn injuries, authorities said.
The boat was owned by Wimbley's employer, Pacific Tugboat Service, and was docked at the business in the 1400 block of Cesar E. Chavez Parkway when it went up in flames. Fire officials said the blaze likely started on the first deck where the galley, an office and a lounge area were located.
The fire caused about $300,000 in damage, according to the SDFRD.
