2 men arrested in connection with stabbing outside Pizza Port restaurant in Carlsbad

SAN DIEGO - Two Escondido men were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of carrying out a stabbing attack on a restaurant security guard who tried to break up a fight at his Carlsbad workplace.

Jose Agundez, 20, and Daniel Martinez, 22, allegedly assaulted the 26-year-old bouncer outside Pizza Port in the 500 block of Carlsbad Village Drive about 8:45 p.m. Aug. 24.

Medics took the victim to a hospital, where he was treated for minor stab wounds.

Investigators determined that the guard had ejected Agundez and Martinez from the pizzeria that night for being disruptive, according to Carlsbad police.

The suspects allegedly attacked him a short time later when he intervened in a dispute with another restaurant patron that erupted in an adjacent parking lot.

Agundez and Martinez were taken into custody in La Jolla and Escondido, respectively, and were booked into county jail in Vista on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
