SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A car slammed into a broken-down SUV along eastbound Interstate 8 in the Mission Valley, leading to a multi-vehicle pileup that left at least two people injured.
Just after 11:30 p.m. Monday, an SUV that had apparently run out of gas in the slow lane of eastbound I-8 near I-15 was being pushed by a group of people when a black Chrysler 300 plowed into it. The impact sent the SUV into the southbound I-15 ramp.
As several drivers pulled over to help, a responding ambulance struck some debris on the roadway and crashed into the Chrysler, severing one of its doors.
Paramedics rushed to help, but a car slammed into their gurney and then struck a car belonging to one of the responding drivers.
One witness told 10News, "I was trying to get everybody to get up to higher ground because there was like 20 cars swerving within a 3-minute period, and eventually one of them hit the car."
The two occupants of the Chrysler were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
