SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A wounded man found lying on a Hillcrest street late Wednesday evening died from his injuries at an area hospital, San Diego police said.

SDPD officials said officers responded to a 911 call at around 9:15 p.m. regarding a man down with blood near him in an area near Front and West Washington streets.

Officers and paramedics arrived to find a man believed to be an assault victim with “apparent trauma to his head and torso," according to police.

The 60-year-old victim was taken to the hospital for treatment but later died, police confirmed. The victim was not identified.

A witness informed police of two men who may have been involved in the incident, and officers eventually tracked the pair down based on the witness’ description.

The two men were detained for questioning, according to police, but no arrests were made as of Thursday morning.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
