It’s been nearly 30 years since the film premiered in 1992 (and almost 80 years since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League it was based on was established), but “A League of Their Own” is getting a reboot.

The star-studded movie, which originally starred Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Madonna, will be presented as a streaming series on Amazon Prime.

If you feel as though you heard about this before, you might have. Amazon Studios first announced the development of the program, which they dubbed a “comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League” back in March 2018. But now, the pilot has wrapped, and Amazon has officially ordered the series.

(CBS created a sitcom version of the film in 1993, but it was pulled after three episodes.)

Abbi Jacobson, who co-created and co-starred in the Comedy Central series “Broad City,” and director/producer Will Graham teamed up to create the hour-long show. They released a joint statement regarding the series.

“We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else,” they said. “Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life.”

Jacobson will star in the series alongside Chanté Adams of “Roxanne Roxanne,” D’Arcy Carden of “The Good Place,” and several other actresses. Recurring guest stars include Molly Ephraim of “Last Man Standing” and comedian Kate Berlant.

Some surviving members of the AAGPBL reportedly served as consultants on the pilot. The former players are expected to continue consulting as the series is filmed.

An official date for the premiere of the series has not yet been announced.
