MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (CNS) -- An underwater search resumed Monday around Marina del Rey for a former professional wrestler whose 10-year-old son was rescued from the surf.

The boy and his 39-year-old father, identified by his wife as former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard, were reported missing at 3:56 p.m. Sunday near 4200 S. Ocean Front Walk, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

County lifeguards pulled the boy from the water. He was evaluated by LAFD paramedics but did not require hospitalization, Stewart said.

Gaspard, however, was nowhere to be found, prompting divers to begin a search of the water.

Underwater searching was halted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and the effort, which includes the use of sonar, resumed shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division.

Periodic land-based patrols had continued through the night.

Gaspard was a star with WWE, making up one half of the tag team Cryme Time with his partner JTG.

On Monday, his wife -- fitness trainer and nutritionist Siliana Gaspard -- posted on Instagram a plea for help finding her husband. She posted two photos of her husband, saying he's been missing since Sunday at the beach at Marina del Rey. She described him as 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds.
