CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A driver got out of his SUV as it erupted in flames along the side of a freeway in Chula Vista.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday, a man told 10News he was on his way home from work when he heard popping noises coming from his vehicle while he was driving on southbound Interstate 805 near H Street.
As he pulled over, smoke and flames began to come from under the hood.
The man said he rushed out of the SUV and called 911 as flames fully engulfed the vehicle.
The fire spread to some nearby brush, but responding firefighters were able to douse the flames within 10 minutes.
