NORTH PARK, Calif. (KGTV) -- People in North Park say they are losing sleep as city crews work to renovate the Georgia Street Bridge.

The bridge is at the corner of Georgia Street and University Avenue. The city started renovating the bridge back in July of 2016. People in the area say construction at night started about a month ago.

One woman says she’s heard jackhammers and tractors backing up as late as 2:00 a.m. She says it got so loud one night, she thought she had heard gunshots

The city says they’re working at night because some of the work can’t be done while cars are driving under the bridge. Night crews are working from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Georgia Street Bridge was built in 1914 and it was historically designated, meaning crews will maintain its historic characteristics.

Construction is expected to be complete in December of 2017.
