Guide to 2017's Fourth of July celebrations in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--Before you settle in to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show, bring the family out to celebrate the Fourth of July at one of the many festivals happening around town.

4th of July in Scripps Ranch 

Time: 7 a.m. Old Pros 10K; 10 a.m. Parade

4,000 runners and bike-riders; colorfully dressed and geared up to start the 4th in style. They begin to gather for warm-ups before dawn in front of Miramar Ranch Elementary--10770 Red Cedar Dr., Scripps Ranch in San Diego. The Scripps Ranch Old Pros 10K, Fun Run, and Bike Rides always draw a crowd. The races begin at 7 that morning, with staggered starting guns through 8. The runs are 10K and 2-miles. Bike rides are 12, 28, and 50-miles. Each course is well-marked, controlled, & patrolled. Miramar Lake is open across the dam for the 10K and the 12-mile bike ride. The finish lines are at Hoyt Park.

4th of July Parade at San Diego Botanic Garden

Time: 10 a.m. 

Join us for our annual 4th of July Parade through the Garden. Bring decorated strollers and wagons (no bikes please) and wear red, white and blue! We will meet at Seeds of Wonder at 10:00 am and parade will start at 10:30 am sharp. After the parade, you are welcome to stay and enjoy the garden. (Source: San Diego Botanic Garden)

Independence Day Festival in Escondido

Grape Day Park, 321 N. Broadway

Time: 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. 

The day will commence with a special presentation by Escondido’s American Legion Post 149, VFW Post 1513, and DAV Chapter 70. This program honoring our nation’s veterans has begun the day’s festivities for many years. Once again, the Center’s National Anthem Singing Competition will discover a local singer whose rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” will be kicking off the day’s events. 4th of July Parade and Family Fun Day in Mira Mesa

Time: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. 

The day begins with a pancake breakfast at the Mira Mesa Senior Center from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Family Fun Day in the Park opens at 11 a.m. with food vendors and entertainment. The annual 4th of July Parade steps off at 11:30 a.m. from the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd. and Greenford Drive, traveling down Mira Mesa Blvd. and turning north on Camino Ruiz to end at New Salem. Family Fun Day continues until 9 p.m., and the park provides a front row seat for the Fireworks Extravaganza.

Old Fashioned Fourth of July in Poway

Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Bring your family and friends to Old Poway Park and celebrate our country’s independence “turn-of-the-20th-century-style”. This event will feature patriotic entertainment, gun fighting re-enactments, free crafts, and old-fashioned games. Tasty treats and train rides will be available for a nominal fee. 4th of July in Coronado 

Time: 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. 

The Fourth of July parade begins at 10 a.m. along Orange Avenue, from First Street to Churchill Place. There are many other activities, including a 12K Run and 5K Run-Walk; a rough-water swim; a community concert; and a parachute demonstration in Glorietta Bay (Source: City of Coronado)

Lake Murray Fireworks and Musicfest

Time: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. 

After several years on hiatus, the beloved San Diego Lake Murray Music Fest and Fireworks show is coming back on July 4th, 2017. The music fest is held at Lake Murray Community Park in San Carlos and the fireworks can be seen throughout the Navajo community, from La Mesa to Del Cerro and beyond. This event has been sorely missed by our community and the hype of its return is swelling. You won’t want to miss out on being part of the team who brings this event back to our neighborhood! Independence Day Celebration in Vista 

Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive

Time: 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. 

The park opens at 7 a.m. and there will be fireworks at 9 p.m. The Light Up the Night Dinner seating begins at 5:15 p.m. and Light Up the Night Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. Military Heroes and Sponsor Recognition Salute begins at 7:15 p.m. The Mar Dels perform from 7:35 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Time: 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. 

Kennedy Park, 1675 E. Madison Avenue

The July 4th event starts with food, games, prizes, kiddie train rides and more! Live musical entertainment begins at 3:00 p.m. and fireworks at 9:00 p.m. Arrive early for parking to find the best spot for your picnic and to view the fireworks!

Santee Salutes 4th of July 

Town Center Community Park East, 550 Park Center Drive  

Time: 2:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. 

Food, live music, patriotic ceremony at 6 p.m., kids fun zone from 2:30 p.m.- 10 p.m, and a spectacular fireworks show simulcast on KSON 97.3 FM at 9 p.m. Free admission, $5 parking.

4th of July Celebration in University City 

Time: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Standley Park and Recreation Center, 35858 Governor Drive, San Diego  

The Independence Day celebration at Standley Park begins with a pancake breakfast and continues with music and dance, a bike and pet parade, scavenger hunt, field games, rock wall, merchandise, and a beer garden. Fourth of July Fireworks in Ocean Beach

Time: 9 p.m. 

Ocean Beach Pier, 5072 Niagara Ave., San Diego, CA 

Celebrate the Fourth of July with a spectacular fireworks display off the OB Pier! Celebrate the official start of summer in Southern California by spending the day enjoying the many shops, restaurants and coffee shops in Downtown Ocean Beach We have free parking at our Main Beach Parking Lot as well as at our Pier Parking Lot. Spend the day picnicking with family and friends, swimming in the ocean, walking and playing in the sand and shopping along Newport Ave. Then bundle up as the sun sets and pull up a blanket for a really spectacular fireworks show from the OB Pier. Fireworks and Beach Bash at Camp Pendleton

Time: 8:45 p.m.  

Del Mar Beach Resort, 210841, 12th Street, Camp Pendleton North, CA 

The 2017 Beach Bash will feature DJ Mike, exciting kids’ activities, Tribute to Heroes video, fireworks show, food trucks, Margaritaville and the MCX Del Mar Exchange. Enter a drawing for the Ken Grody Ford Cash Prizes and 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE. Hit the sand and surf early and plan to stay late! Volcan Mountain Fireworks from the Summit hike 

Time: 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. 

Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve, 1209 Farmer Road, Julian, CA 

Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the many firework displays around San Diego County from Volcan Mountain summit. This hike is moderately strenuous with a elevation gain of 1,000 ft. and a round-trip distance of 5.5 miles. Dress in layers, wear hiking boots and bring snacks and plenty of water. On the hike up, learn about the area’s history and geography as you take in a coastal sunset while waiting for the fireworks to begin! Then, kick back and enjoy the show. Plan ahead; a fully charged flashlight will help guide you down the mountain in the moonlight. This event meets at the Hubbell gate. (Source: County of San Diego

Legoland's Red, White and Boom Celebration in Carlsbad 

Time: 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. 

1 Legoland Drive

Don't miss fireworks set to a patriotic musical tribute with great viewing in designated locations throughout the park. Throughout the day, kids of all ages can enjoy performances, meet their favorite Lego friends and characters and participate in all-American family picnic games, like water balloon tosses, burlap sack races, the Family Build Challenge and LEGO Hamburger relay.
