SAN DIEGO - (KGTV) — High Tech High School senior Naliyah Bailey became interested in running while in middle school.
She has always loved to compete, and she's been such a strong runner since arriving on campus, that she currently is the captain of the cross country and track teams.
"I started track and cross country when I was a freshman, so I immediately made a bunch of friends on the team. Continuing to run with them the following years. I got to meet more upcoming freshman and sophomores. I feel like it's important to have something to not only motivate you, but to have people motivate you that you wouldn't normally hang out with."
On the track, Naliyah was only able to compete once this spring, in the Meb Keflezghi Invitational. She did quite well placing first in the 800 meters.
"It was a really proud moment for me because I have really bad performance anxieties, so sometimes during my races I can freak out. That race was one of the best races I ever had throughout my whole entire track season."
But unfortunately, coronavirus put an end to what looked to be a promising spring season.
"Because of this epidemic, sadly I won't be able to have any more of those races, and I won't get to finish to my senior season and I trained so hard."
