A toddler was discovered walking alone on a National City street Monday morning.

10News learned a motorcyclist spotted the 3-year-old boy wandering about one block from his home near 30th Street and Highland Avenue at about 6 a.m.

Officers responded and took the child into their custody. Police went door-to-door in search of the boy's parents and also made announcements using a bullhorn.

Just after 6 a.m., the boy was reunited with his family.

His mom, Alicia Aceves, said she, her husband and their 3 children were all asleep in the same room when her son disappeared.

She believes the boy climbed onto something to unlock the sliding lock on their bedroom door before sneaking out.

According to Aceves, her young son did the same thing twice last year, but each time relatives found him a short time later.

She told 10News she planned to buy better locks and safety doorknobs so nothing like this happens again.
