SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sex toy giveaway on campus at San Diego State University last weekend was a success despite opposition, a women’s group reported.

The event was scheduled with the participation of Dr. Jill McDevitt, a ‘sexologist’ who has a private practice focusing on sexual wellness.

Dr. McDevitt had originally planned to give away vibrators donated by the manufacturer at a yoga studio. The giveaway was canceled when someone complained.

Dr. McDevitt saw the complaint as proof that her mission of raising awareness is important. “We should stop being ashamed of female sexuality,” she told 10News.

The Andrea O’Donnell Womyn’s Outreach Association of SDSU stepped in to host the event on campus, with the permission of SDSU officials.

The WOA and Dr. McDevitt spent several hours putting flyers up around campus. They believe the flyers were later torn down.

Despite the reported loss of publicity, the group handed out 300 vibrators to women and men.
