A woman in Spring Valley says she's scared to sleep at home alone after someone fired a BB gun at her apartment.
It happened around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Lakeview Village Apartment Complex on Sweetwater Springs Boulevard.
Maggie Owens said it started with a loud knock at her door.
"It was like a loud, like three bangs," said Owens.
She was too frightened to look through the peep hole. Her husband is on active duty. She was home alone. She was so scared she called her mom in Virginia. A few minutes later, there was more knocking.
"There was another three bangs," said Owens.
The knocking continued but was soon followed by the sound of something much louder.
"That's when I heard shots, like it sounded like fireworks, almost you know, because they shot so many," said Owens.
She called 911. While she was on the phone with the dispatcher, another round of shots came through the window of her upstairs apartment.
"I thought they were going to break in, for sure," said Owens.
When deputies arrived, they told her the shots came from a BB gun. They searched the complex, but there was no sign of the shooter.
"Still frightening, you can still get injured with a BB gun, especially when it came through the glass," said Owens.
She doesn't understand why her apartment was targeted. The couple moved to San Diego from Virginia nearly a year ago.
"It's kind of scary, because it's like why my apartment, why me? The location is just weird to me," said Owens.
