SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--A 70-year-old man aboard a cruise ship required the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard to medically evacuate him Wednesday.
The Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a report of a Norwegian Pearl passenger experiencing symptoms of heart failure, kidney failure and pneumonia around 1:00 p.m. but the ship was more than 250 miles south of San Diego.
A rendezvous point closer to San Diego was determined and by 7:30 p.m. a MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter safely hoisted the man upward and onward toward Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.
The patient's condition is unknown.
