SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 1,000 upset parents have already signed an online petition asking the San Diego Unified School District to suspend its sexual education program.
Ashley Bever is one of the parents who started gathering signatures. She says her girls, ages 11 and 12, are too young for the information the lessons include.
The law only requires sex-ed in middle and high school, but San Diego starts the program in the sixth grade.
Bever believes the new program encourages early sexual experimentation.
The curriculum was adopted last October after public review and comment. The district maintains it is age appropriate and also says parents can opt out.
The school board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 25, at 5 p.m. in the Eugene Brucker Education Center Auditorium on 4100 Normal Street.
Bever and other parents are planning to attend and voice their concerns.
