LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A woman led police on a chase in a stolen van Tuesday morning from the West Los Angeles area, where her passenger got out, to Downtown Los Angeles, where the woman rolled out of the van before she was taken into custody.
The pursuit ended just after 5:10 a.m. in the area of Maple Avenue and Fifth Street, where the driver rolled out of the van as it continued on and crashed into a pole and the curb, according to police and reports from the scene.
The chase began about an hour before in the area of Soto Street and Lancaster Avenue in Boyle Heights, said Los Angeles police Officer Irma Mota. The California Highway Patrol took over the chase in the Irwindale area where the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway meets the Foothill (210) Freeway, Mota said.
At one point, the van came upon a freeway closure on the San Diego (405) Freeway at Santa Monica Boulevard and exited the freeway on an on-ramp but did not collide with oncoming traffic.
In West Los Angeles, the driver's passenger exited the van. It wasn't immediately clear if that person was found.
The chase made its way through mid-city before the driver traveled into downtown Los Angeles, eastern Los Angeles and then back to Downtown Los Angeles where the driver exited the vehicle. She was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of evading, police said.
