CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista salon owner is getting national attention for her care and dedication to women battling cancer.  TV personality Mike Rowe’s “Returning the Favor” Facebook show recently returned the favor to Snooky Rico, who runs the “Loving You Through It” salon inside Rico’s on 3rd in Chula Vista.

Snooky trims and stylizing wigs for cancer patients for free.

“They’re already beautiful. I just remind them of that,” said Snooky, who is also a breast cancer survivor.

Rowe’s crew fixed and updated Snooky’s salon during his episode, which included a trip to Sharp Chula Vista’s Barnhart Cancer Center.  The center has one of the only internal boutiques in the county, if not the state, dedicated to catering to women battling cancer.  The boutique offers women free wigs or scarves provided by the American Cancer Society.

“It is amazing. It’s transformative for them,” said Sharp patient navigator Cara Fairfax who works with women coming into the boutique.

The women are then sent to Snooky who trims and stylizes the wigs with the patients for free.

“Snooky understands me on a whole other level. She went through it herself,” said one of her clients Isabel Hermosillo.

Snooky said the renovation by Rowe was absolutely amazing but said she’s been working rent-free inside Rico’s on 3rd for more than three years.  She said she’d like to start paying her way to help the owners cover their lease even though the owners aren’t pressuring her to pay.

Snooky could get some help from the Chula Vista Police Department, which is selling special pink versions of their police patch for $5 each. That money will go to support “Loving You Through It” salon.
