Wedding ring found on beach almost lost again

John Hughes donates his time reuniting lost wedding rings with their rightful fingers.

"The feeling you couldn't pay for," he said.

He found one over the weekend at the beach in Carlsbad. It has April 17, 2015 engraved inside, so he thinks the couple lost it celebrating on the sand.

Hughes said there were hand marks in the sand where the couple probably searched. But when he demonstrated them, the ring flew off his pinky.

It led to some tense moments. First, he tried looking, but the ring blended in. No luck, so he went to his metal detector. Still nothing. That's when he got nervous.

"Are you kidding me?" he said. "I had it on my finger."

Finally, a beachgoer came through, finding it about three feet from where he was searching.

Relieved, Hughes said it's back to the first mission - reuniting that ring with the correct hand. He has a knack for it - he said 33 of the 36 rings he found last year got back to the right people.
