A Mission Beach man is out of work after a group of thieves broke into his van and stole thousands of dollars worth of tools.
Arnie said the crime happened around 4 a.m. on Tuesday while he slept.
“I looked out the window and I see someone actually opening our driver side door, and I run out, and unfortunately I wasn’t dressed,” Arnie said. “At the time I didn’t know that they had gotten into my van completely, I thought that we had basically caught the person trying to get in in the beginning.”
Arnie said he called police, and when officers searched the van he uses for handyman services, that’s when he realized he’d been cleaned out.
“My tools basically keep me alive, this is my living, this is what I do, and unfortunately, you’re at a standstill at that point,” Arnie said. “You lose all your tools, you lose your job basically, people are living paycheck to paycheck, and I’m no exception here.”
Arnie said the thieves stole approximately $5,000 worth of compressors, drills and other tools.
Police said they are investigating.
