Neighbors on one North Pacific Beach street say they are getting hit time and time again by thieves. One woman said a burglar, even broke into her garage while kids slept inside the house.
In that case, Andrea Evans said the thief stole the garage door opener from her car, opened the garage, and then stole expensive equipment.
“It’s frightening, this is a quiet, nice neighborhood- you don’t think it’s going to happen to you,” Evans said. “Even when I go to bed at night, I’m a little bit paranoid now, I always look at the window to see what’s going on out there, if anyone’s walking around.”
Another neighbor sent 10News surveillance video of a man jiggling the door handles of the cars in his driveway.
“When we got home it looked like someone had tried to pry the lock on our gate,” said Melodie Hallett, another neighbor who’s had problems on this street.
“(It’s) an invasion of privacy, and you don’t know if someone is standing outside watching you, waiting for you to leave your gate, maybe to attack you.”
Residents who live on the block said they plan on adding more security cameras, motion detectors and talking with each other to track crime and suspicious people they encounter there.
