Swimmer rescued by helicopter at Sunset Cliffs

Posted

A swimmer who was trying to get out of the ocean at Sunset Cliffs slipped and fell on the rocks and was rescued by a San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter Monday.

Dispatchers were notified shortly after 10 a.m. that the man was stuck on the rocks near the foot of Ladera Street with a minor leg or ankle injury, according to spokesman Lee Swanson.

"With the tide coming in, lifeguards were not able to rescue him the regular way, so they called in the helicopter," Swanson said.

The helicopter lifted the victim out off the cliffs, took him to a landing zone at Pt. Loma Nazarene University, where he was met by paramedics for treatment, Swanson said.
