SAN DIEGO - An out-of-control SUV rolled over a man who was sleeping on a lawn next to a La Jolla-area strip mall Wednesday afternoon, critically injuring him.
The victim was lying on a grassy median alongside a parking lot in the 2200 block of Torrey Pines Road about 1 p.m. when a 75-year-old woman trying to park her 2004 Lexus sport utility vehicle accelerated over a curb and drove over him, according to San Diego police.
The motorist continued onto adjacent La Jolla Shores Drive, re-entered the commercial complex and parked, Officer Frank Cali said. A witness then approached and informed her that she had run over someone, he said.
Medics took the 50-year-old victim to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with pelvic, spine and rib fractures, Cali said.
